Sting concert in Batumi, Georgia

Georgian Black Sea town of Batumi has been added to Sting’s European tour playlist.

Georgian culture minister Nikoloz Rurua stated that talks between the Eastern Promotions Company and Sting’s representatives have led to an agreement. Sting is expected to arrive in the Georgian capital Tbilisi in July 2011. The concert is planned in Piazza Square, Batumi on July 3rd.

The report is good news for the Sting fans in the region. Plans for a Sting concert in the republic of Georgia already existed for some years, but now they finally become reality.

Sting is expected to perform with American trumpeter and composer Chris Botti. Georgia`s National Symphony Orchestra is expected to participate in the concert.

Sting – Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner – was the principal songwriter, lead singer and bassist of the rock band The Police. As a solo musician and member of The Police, Sting has received sixteen Grammy Awards for his work, receiving his first Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 1981, and an Oscar nomination for the best song. He is a member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
